Hello Lucas,

Congratulations on your interest in the United States Naval Academy.

My name is Jason Woodward and I am the Blue and Gold Officer assigned to assist you, answer questions and complete the BGO interview portion of your application to USNA.

Application for the Naval Academy is accomplished on two tracks.

1. Naval Academy Side: http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/

A. Admissions board. You must complete all required information including High School Transcript, Math and English teacher evaluation, SAT/ACT official scores among other items.

B. Medical Evaluation. When you have completed a majority of the application requirements you will be schedule for a physical and eye test.

C. Candidate Fitness Assessment. Basketball throw from kneeling, shuttle run, push ups, pull ups, sit ups, mile run.

2. Nomination:

A. Everyone should apply to their Congressman, both Senators and the Vice President.

Last year over 15,000 people applied to the Naval Academy. Just over 1,230 were accepted and began training on 01 July 2009. You can get a sense of how competitive you will be and have many of your questions answered by exploring the Naval Academy Catalog: http://www.usna.edu/Catalog

Averages for the SAT are 600 Math and 600 Verbal; ACT 26/26. You can take either test as many times as you would like. Your best score in either section of the ACT or SAT will be considered. The United States Naval Academy produces warriors for both the Navy and Marine Corps. Athletics and Leadership are as important as test scores and class standing.

After you have completed the majority of your application I will interview you in your home with your parents available. Please contact me to schedule an interview.

If your goal is to become a Military Officer I advise also applying to the Military Academy (West Point) http://www.usma.edu/ and the Air Force Academy http://www.usafa.af.mil/ . As your goal is to become a Navy or Marine Corps Officer I advise that you also apply for the Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship program. http://www.nrotc.navy.mil/

Alaska Fireweed

I just learned a little about Alaskan Fireweed; named for its striking blooms and tall stalks. Patches of fireweed can be seen growing throughout Alaska’s more temperate regions; also found in my home town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Here in Alaska it is a means for telling how far into summer we are.   In mid to late summer fireweed begins blooming in the middle of the stalk, with each successive flower blooming just above the one before it. As summer progresses the blooms move up the stalk. As the last flowers are blooming at the top of the stalk, the earliest blooms seed and turn to cotton. When the fireweed turns to cotton, Alaskans say there are about six weeks until winter begins. The close up picture posted here was taken the first week in August. (oh-by the way.. the silvers are in and I scheduled a fishing trip this week)

Kelly and I passed around the attached book summary yesterday and thought it would be fun if I try and target a monthly short self-development read which we can pass around and discuss. She and I initialed after we read and now it’s sitting on Shanna desk. Nothing required, just if you want I will provide the resource. We have a whole binder of great summaries like this on my desk labeled “book list” and they are also all provided on tape if you prefer. Our New Home

We can’t say enough about your firm.   My husband and I decided to sell our home in Montana to move back to Alaska in March 2010. At this time I contacted your firm on the internet and had nothing but great response. Shanna Lantto was great to work with as she directed me and assisted us with our needs and then connected us with Jesse Tanner. Everything from the beginning to the end was smooth. Our needs were met in so many ways and the communication was spectacular.  We can’t say enough about your firm and about Shanna or Jesse. They both made our move to Alaska and our purchase of our new home so smooth.  From the time our offer was accepted and closing occurred it was right at 30 days.
Our new home is everything we wanted and wouldn’t have been able to put the deal together without Jesse at our side. He is very caring, compassionate and a great listener. You are fortunate to have such a wonderful person working in your firm. He will be recommended by us to our friends. I know our son will be contacting him in the future when he is ready to buy his first home.

Victim vs. Opportunity Graditude

I cannot say enough great things about the recent opportunity I was afforded. About 9 months ago I fell into the team leader role in a Keller Williams office and it changed my life. I am a connector; I love nothing more than being able to help connect people with the path to their personal, financial, relationship or business goals. This role as a KW TL immediately put me in a position to connect at a very high level and make a living doing it. About 3 weeks ago the ownership group of the organization I was leading at the time decided I was not performing at the level they needed and gave me an opportunity to change my vision and leadership of the organization or find a new work address.   This led to a weekend without sleep, several contacts with my coach, thumbing through a couple personal and business development books, and ultimately the decision to step out of the organization and search for my next opportunity. WOW!! At the time I had no idea how much gratitude I owed for giving the opportunity to look. I had known for some time the organization was not the right long term fit for me; however this organization had brought me into a great company and paid for my on boarding experience. They were the conduit to my inner company and local area network; for that I owed them my loyalty and passion as long as they desired or until I recruited and trained a suitable replacement. As first I was frustrated, hurt, and just plain ticked off they were now offering me the door due to a perceived lack of performance on my part or maybe they just felt our leadership visions would not align. After a week or so of being a victim I realized what they did for me actually deserved my gratitude and my initial perception of failure was actually a huge leap forward for me personally.

iPad Sales Team

This past couple weeks have been exciting as I look for my career path. In that search I was fortunate enough to spend some time with the new Northpoint Title & Escrow iPad sales force. Wow, what they are doing is really cool! Howard Chung recently took over the team and implemented the concept, most likely one of the first in the industry. As a sales guy myself I quickly validated how I might implement this tool in my career search and now here I am writing a blog on my new fathers day iPad. Apps, apps, and more apps.. I find myself most excited about wow factor productivity apps and thought I would write about my favorite thus far.

1) Seychelle Vanpoole introduced me to dropbox.com through the myredtools.com gang to help write some training webinars. I have always used amazon’s jungledisk.com, but may have just found a new favorite for multi-user and computer syncing. Btw you can also use dropbox to set up public urls to your files; the possibilities are endless.

2) now to my favorite part iPad app goodreader – once installed you can sync to web based servers like dropbox and google docs. Now I have access to any files I drop in the drop box from my iPad? It’s fluid, reliable, and fast…

Now I can create shared folders with my sales teams from which they can sync as many computers and devices as they like and best of all, I can access them from the iPad and am starting to wonder if I even need to bring my laptop with me anymore.
